Quran gateway is situated in Shiraz, near Allah-o Akbar mountain pass& between Babakuhi Mountains & Chehel Maqam. The cause for the appelation is for the existance of a Quran above a high arch built in the time of Azod-ol-doleh-ye Deilami. A Quran is Laid in a small chamber over the arch, So that the travellers pass under it as a sign of good omen.

The arch was broken & ruined by the passage of time.

In the Zand era, Karim Khan restored the structure in 1195-1172, built a room above it & placed there two precious volumes of the Quran hand-written in Thuluth calligraphy.

The structure was destroyed & the above-mentioned Qurans were transported to Pars Museum. The place was damaged by the earthquake shaking Shiraz during the Qajar era. It was later restored by Mohammad Zaki Khan-e Nouri.

The latest restorations were done by Hossein-e Igar, a famous merchant, in 1327, when he had some Quranic Verses written on tiles installed.
